Thank you, Suzanne, my unicorn-writing pal (unicorns are
real, right? RIGHT? I think I saw a unicorn doing shots with Bigfoot the other
night at the pub), for having me back here again. My first adult supernatural
thriller, Neighborhood Watch, just came out, quite a different book than my YA
trilogy, the Tex, the Witch Boy series.
Something’s not quite right in the neighborhood. The old
guard is dying off. The replacement neighbors-young, brash, rude-make matters
worse. For Derek and Toni, they take it all in stride. At first. Then Derek
re-evaluates them. Is there something more sinister about the new kids on the
block? Or is he relapsing into a mental breakdown, one he suffered years back?
Doesn’t matter, because there’s something lurking in the basement, something
unspeakable. Something too frighteningly real.
Welcome to the neighborhood, gang! Neighborhood Watch is my
attempt at subtle, spooky horror. The sorta’ paranoid approach of classic
chillers from the ‘70’s such as Rosemary’s Baby and The Stepford Wives. Nothing
is as it seems. Trust no one. Buckle up, pull the blanket up to your chin, and
settle in. No gore, no sadism as is popular with today’s horror literature.
Just a good ol’-fashioned scary tale told around a camp-fire.
The characters are based upon me and my wife. She’s NOT
happy about this book. Practically an autobiography (if you take out the
ghosts, satanic cult, murders, and the thing lurking in the basement). I
apologize to my wife. But the tale had to be told. Particularly with our awful
neighbors across the street.

Maybe there’s more truth to this tale than I’m willing to
admit.
Neighborhood Watch. A chilling tale for these chilling
Winter nights.
